If you need to temporarily turn off a connection, you can toggle off the Enabled switch when editing the connection (Backend > Integrations > Connections > click a connection). To re-enable the connection, just toggle the Enabled switch back on and save.

What Users See While a Tableau Connection Is Disabled

Disabling a Tableau connection hides all of its content from every frontend user as soon as you save:
  • Menu items, tiles, and search results for its Dashboards, workbooks, projects, and Tableau Metrics disappear.
  • Opening one of its Dashboards, workbooks, or Tableau Metrics by URL shows the 404 page.
  • A page that embeds one of its Dashboards or Tableau Metrics still loads. Only that element is left out, and the rest of the page renders as usual.
This applies even when Skip checking all Dashboard permissions or Skip checking menu item’s Dashboard permissions is turned on in Tableau Server Settings, and to content whose URL is listed in the Authentication Settings Whitelist. The backend is not affected, so administrators can still edit the content while its connection is off. Re-enabling the connection and saving brings the content back immediately. Content from Tableau Public, which does not use a connection, is never hidden this way. A connection that is enabled but that Curator cannot reach (for example, during a Tableau outage) is handled differently: see Content Hidden While a Connection Is Down. Important Note: If your Curator licensing limits how many connections you can have in a single portal, disabled/inactive connections are still counted toward those limits. If you need to remove a connection from that count, you’ll need to fully delete the connection instead of disabling it.
