Explorer is an interactive and dynamic tile layout element that can be added in the Page Builder. It provides users the ability to search and filter displayed content. Filters utilize keywords to get the desired results. This layout is best used when you have a lot of content on your site as the tiles are small.

To add a Explorer page element

  1. Navigate to the Content section in the backend of your Curator instance.
  2. Select Pages from the Content dropdown.
  3. Click the New Page button or edit an existing one.
  4. Add a new row element and/or click the Edit Content button (pencil) icon of a row element.
  5. In the element popup select Explorer under the Web Elements tab.
After this your Page will display the Explorer element. Since this uses the Keywords functionality please review the subject here.

Keyword Filter Behavior

The keyword and category filters in the Explorer element always describe the content that is currently visible. Each filter list is built from the tiles remaining after the active filters and search term are applied, so selecting a keyword narrows the lists to only the keywords that still appear on at least one of the remaining tiles. Keywords that no longer match any visible tile are hidden until the selection is cleared. This affects every filter list in the element:
  • Selecting a keyword narrows the other keyword list, when both the top and bottom keyword sections are configured, along with the list of categories.
  • Selecting a category clears any selected keywords and rebuilds the keyword lists for that category.
  • Typing in the search box narrows the keyword and category lists in the same way.
The selected keyword itself stays visible and highlighted, so you can click it again to deselect it. Deselecting restores the options that are still valid under any filters that remain active, such as a selected category, a search term, or another selected keyword, rather than removing all filtering. This narrowing is the intended behavior and cannot currently be turned off. The only related element settings are Hide Navigation Categories and Hide Keyword Filters Categories, which hide the filter lists entirely rather than changing how they narrow. Keywords set to Hidden are not offered as Explorer filters, including in sections that name them explicitly under Customize Filters. Keywords set only to Hidden from Search are still offered here.

New and Updated Flags

The Explorer element displays New and Updated flags on tiles when content has been manually flagged in the backend (Tableau > Dashboards > Manually Flag as New / Manually Flag as Updated), consistent with the behavior of the Tiles element.
