When to Use This Setting
Enable this setting if your users report that captured slides show filtered data they did not expect, and the filters in question were configured to apply to only some of the worksheets in the workbook. For example:- A workbook contains Dashboard A and Dashboard B.
- Dashboard A has a “Region” filter that is excluded from Dashboard B.
- A user sets “Region = West” on Dashboard A, then captures Dashboard B as a slide.
- With the standard capture method, the slide for Dashboard B is filtered to “Region = West” even though the filter was excluded from that dashboard.
- With Capture Slides Using Custom Views enabled, the slide for Dashboard B is captured unfiltered, matching what the user sees on screen.
If snapshots do not match the dashboard view for a different reason — for example, filters applied inside the
dashboard are not being captured at all — see
Troubleshooting: Snapshot Does Not Match the Dashboard View
first. This setting only addresses filters being applied to sheets that excluded them.
Requirements
- Report Builder must be enabled.
- The Tableau connection must use Connected Apps authentication, which captures each slide under the viewing user’s identity. See Embed Authentication for setup instructions.
- Scheduled Reports must be turned off. See the restrictions below.
Restrictions
Scheduled Reports and Capture Slides Using Custom Views cannot both be enabled. This is enforced in Portal Settings: while Scheduled Reports is on, the Capture Slides Using Custom Views toggle is displayed but cannot be changed. Scheduled Reports must be turned off and saved before the toggle becomes editable. The two are mutually exclusive because this capture method requires a signed-in user viewing the dashboard in their browser at the moment the slide is captured. Curator’s scheduled sends run unattended, with no user session to capture from, so a scheduled report cannot produce slides this way. Users can still build reports and email them manually with this setting enabled — it is only the recurring, unattended delivery of Scheduled Reports that is unavailable.Enable Capture Slides Using Custom Views
